Round 2 Tim Horton’s Division: #BestCopTVShow

Over the past couple of months, I’ve compiled a list of 64 TV shows from you, my readers.  They have been broken down into four divisions randomly.  If your favorite is missing, you’ve no one to blame but yourself.

Without further ado:

1. Ironside (1967-1975).  Ironside is confined to a wheel chair (an attempted assassination left him paralyzed). With his former assistants Brown and Whitfield (later Belding) and former delinquent (and later lawyer) Mark, he combats crime for the San Francisco police from his mobile office (a van) while leaving a pot of chili cooking back at headquarters.

2. Longmire (2012- ). Walt Longmire is the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County.  Widowed only a year, Longmire is a man in psychic repair that buries his pain behind a brave face and dry wit.

3. The Mentalist (2008- ). After a serial killer named Red John murdered Patrick Jane’s wife and daughter, Jane dedicated his life to hunting down and killing Red John. To that end he gave up his lucrative pretense of being a psychic and joined the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as a consultant to the team responsible for investigating the Red John case

4. Barney Miller (1974-1982). Barney Miller is the kind of cop we’d all like to run into. He is always sensible. He maintains order over a squad room of detectives who gamble for a hobby, get hit on by anything in skirts, go to renaissance philosophy conventions for fun, and would really prefer to be writing.

Only one of these four will advance to the Savory Sixteen.  Voting for first round of the Winchell’s Division will end today at 1500 hrs. Left Coast time.

I’d love to see this tournament all over social media! Please share at will on your various social media homes! Just make sure folks come back here to vote!

  1. Crap I love 3 of these listed. But I will go with The Mentalist.

  2. Barney Miller. Worked with a few Fishes throughout my 34 year career.

  3. Barney Miller. Worked with a few Fishes throughout my 34 year career.

  4. Barney Miller. Many will say it is the best detective show of all time for the realities of the job (even if toned down for 70s tv)
